Renchia Droganis from Johannesburg has dedicated a big part of her life to educating consumers about chemicals used in beauty products and the harmful side effect they can cause

She started the Africology brand to offer people the opportunity to experience truly natural and ethical spa and skincare products that contain only 100% natural ingredients – where possible locally sourced – and essential oils that align skin, body and mind

She started her career as a life coach and holistic healer for leading companies, including AIG, The Compass Group and DCL Foods, and also worked together with state prosecutors to help empower victims to find the mental strength to testify in court. After she trained as a Reiki master and aroma therapist, she incorporated homemade, bespoke skincare products that contain essential oils in her therapies, which were a huge hit with her clients. When a spa approached her to make a body wrap, she took on the challenge and launched Africology, which has grown steadily since its beginnings in 2001.

Renchia is deeply committed to empowering consumers and helping them make conscious choices while honouring the universe, nature and its intelligence. Based on years of research, she has an in-depth knowledge about the chemicals used in cosmetics and the effect they have on the human body.

The Africology range is completely chemical-free and can be found in some of the most luxurious spas around the world. Renchia has got four grown-up children and all of them are involved in the business, which makes Africology a true family affair. She currently operates Africology from the Randburg area in Johannesburg where the Africology office and showroom are based.

Never one to stop learning and growing, Renchia has also studied astrology, Jungian psychology, metaphysics and ancient Indian Vedic studies. Her view of the world is one of sharing, learning and developing as human beings while respecting the environment. For this reason, Renchia is deeply committed to encourage the process of change in South Africa by creating opportunities for underprivileged men and women.

Part of the revenue generated by Africology goes into the Africology Education Fund, which provides the financial means to put underprivileged children through school and university. Africology also focuses on developing the income potential of very poor communities. The marula oil used in Africology products is one of the raw materials Renchia sources from a community project. Renchia has also initiated the Africology Water-Sharing Project in order to provide rainwater-collection tanks for communities without easy access to water.

She is an inspirational business woman who can see the big picture and is not willing to compromise ethics and the quality of the natural ingredients for profit – a true ACT Hero!

NomadsOn2Wheels is my journey by bicycle, from Zurich Switzerland to Cape Town South Africa. If all goes well I will be traveling for at least six months and hope to cycle at least 10,000km (6,200 miles). I will travel without a support vehicle which means I will be transporting all my equipment, food and water with me on my bicycle

Modern conventional modes of travel and tourism are often at blinding speeds thereby creating artificial barriers between traveler, locals and mother nature. I want to experience and interact with the people along the way and be immersed in the natural environment. I believe this to be a truer, more valuable way of traveling as apposed to jet setting around the globe at breakneck speeds.

I am using this journey to raise money for an education charity called Ikamva Youth. I am also collaborating with an international NGO called Engineers Without Borders to facilitate future development projects. Last but not least, I hope to inspire the people following my journey to follow their dreams and escape from the everyday rat race. I strongly believe that there is more to life than the urban lifestyles largely based on materialistic and monetary values that so many people aspire to

Trees4schools is a charity organization with a mission to plant fruit-bearing trees in disadvantaged schools in Cape Town and teach children how to grow their own food, helping the environment and kids.

The first time we helped out Helder, my wife Itziar and I joined Pascale and Ian from ‘Trees4Schools’ at the I’Themba Primary School in Capricorn on the Southern Peninsula. Our mission was to help out with planting some fig and other fruit trees and a vegetable garden for the kids at the school to learn from and enjoy.

We had an amazing morning mucking in with the kids and staff of the I’Themba school and other trees4schools volunteers. We now volunteer regularly, for our small company it is such a privilege to be able to offset our carbon emissions by actually planting trees ourselves, it not only makes a difference for the environment but it also makes a big difference for us too, it is so rewarding.

Furthermore interacting with the local community and helping ‘Trees4Schools’ to plant the seeds of hope in some of the most disadvantaged areas in Cape Town is a truly humbling experience that we are extremely grateful for.

To create a mode to plant trees and veggies in as many of our local schools as possible

To increase the awareness of our youth and future leaders regarding re-greening, reducing our country’s carbon footprint, the devastating effects of global warming and their ability to grow their own food

To encourage Miko Coffee’s customers and other nice people to match or better Miko Coffee’s pledges

To encourage like-minded individuals to work together towards these common goals

I thought i wanted to change the world, i thought i wanted to make a difference

And being in “Club Decadence” was not the way to do it. Back in London, a girl friend and i were at a launch of a swanky new bar in Soho and we had exhausted their copious supply of champagne and we were like; “but what do we do?”, i was like “we hustle media” and she replied “that’s it, we are MEDIA HUSSIES“.

Fast forward 7 years and here i sit as the Creative Director of a creative agency and production company called Media Hussies. We focus on women and youth and speak to them through media. Our ethos is empowerment, education through entertainment.

We believe in “Dreams : Love : Voice” – simply, what is your dre am, learn to love yourself and find your voice so that you may be heard. In the noise that is media, there are so many negative messages aimed at women and youth. There are also many, many unsolved issues in the women and youth market; drug and alcohol abuse, addiction, rape, abuse, lack of self esteem etc etc. We want to look at these “issues” and solve them.

How is this done? Through telling our stories, showing us a new way in advertising of products aimed at women and youth and becoming a visionary and not a follower. Pink is the new black and we want women to be seen. We believe that if you give a woman the tools to life she may choose to life a free and fair life!

Envirotrade works with forest farmers to change the way their land is used, and help them to boost their crop yields by the cultivation of nitrogen-fixing trees and plants, which enrich the soil and slow down deforestation.Carbon offset sales have enabled the Nhambita community in central Mozambique to build two new schools and a further school is under construction.

Beginning their initiative in Mozambique, Heaton said the results have been positive thus far. “Very successful in terms of the protection of existing forests, planting of new trees, and changing of community attitudes towards their environment,” he said.

“We have also brought a new and sustainable form of income to a previously impoverished community.” As far as Envirotrade goes, Heaton noted, “We hope to benefit financially from sharing in the carbon revenues achieved from sales of the carbon offset credits. To date, however, in terms of our agreement with the community, 100 percent of the revenues have gone back into the local project and community trust fund.” Quote from Article published courtesy of MediaGlobal.org

The way I look at the world now started with a changing within myself. Healing of myself and learning to love myself is what made me more compassionate to our planet which brought about the realization that I had to change the way I was living

Looking around at family and friends who were like me got me thinking that education was essential for change to happenWe need change both in our inner world and outer world, because the one reflects the other and when they are in harmony, that’s when we can create Heaven on Earth. Therefore my motto is: Heal Yourself, Heal the Earth and so create Heaven on Earth. So that is why I started The Green Power House

I started my working life as a nurse so I have always been interested in healing and working with people. I lived on various coal mine properties for 16 years and had 4 children during that time. We came back to JHB in 1997 and that was one of the times for great change within myself. I started taking my power back in the form of better nutrition, educating myself about how our thoughts affect our bodies, relationships and how that reflects in our environment. I became more spiritually connected, became a better mother, wife, child, sister and friend. Then I looked at what I was doing in my home, how wasteful was I and started reading articles that educated me, for example, what was happening when my garbage was collected – where did it go. I looked at how much power and water our household was consuming and ways in which I could reduce that. These and many other areas of my life needed re-assessing. And as I changed and put in place environmentally friendly practices I realized how better I felt about myself – I was contributing to making the world a better place, and that felt good!

As my children got older and started leaving home and my role as full time mom reduced, it was time for me to take what I had learned out into a bigger arena. I started thinking about what kind of work I would like to do. One day a guest on Oprah got me thinking. He was demonstrating appliances in the home that reduce power consumption. It was fascinating and I realized that in spite of all the work I was doing in my home there still was a lot I didn’t know. So the idea of creating an open house where I could showcase all the latest environmentally friendly technologies and products where people could come and see them actually working and be inspired to make change their own homes and lives. Along side that would be healing therapies to assist people on their own inner healing journey. So for me the two facets of life that I had experienced could be available to anyone interested in improving their lives and the health of the earth.

As this idea crystallized in my mind so the Universe opened up to me. The right house became available, through the ex-owner I found the company to transform the house into a Green House, my husband was in a position to help me financially and my niece returned from London and needed a job so she started working with me. Although there were many challenges along the way, it kept flowing and by 12th January 2009 we were able to open the Green Power House.

So now my dream is living and breathing. We are bringing Green Conscious Living out into open where people can see, feel and experience that living in this way is a beautiful way to live and the only way forward to sustain and nurture Mother Earth and ourselves now and in the future.
