We Aim to:

  • Work towards the elimination of violence against women and children through frontline services, lobbying, advocacy and research
  • Create a strong women’s rights sector in order to enhance women’s voices and agency through strong sector building, networking and sector integrated programming 
  • Mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS through strategic development of research and education on the intersection between HIV/AIDS and violence against women
  • Influence and engage in policy development and change to ensure women’s rights are enshrined and/or mainstreamed into institutional mechanisms.
  • Enhance women’s agency through the process of psychological and legal support
  • Ensure an environment that is gender sensitive through engagement of socio-economic and socio-political issues as impacting factors on the vulnerability to violence of women and children
  • Provide effective and sustainable interventions through good governance and accountable processes

PROGRAMMES & PROJECTS
In order to be proactive in the women’s rights discourse, POWA has initiatives that provide sector capacity building and strengthening, law reform, research, campaigning, knowledge creation and dissemination, rights education and regional and international strategic engagement. These activities work towards keeping the issue of women’s rights with specific focus on violence against women on the national agenda.
